Devereux  Emmet  (1861-1934)   is an underappreciated  American Golf course architect who was a pioneer.  His work featured profuse bunkering  quirky sequences  of holes. He adopted blind land forms and embraced surprise to keep golfers off balance.One of his finest opening sequence of holes  unfolds  at Keney Park, on Hartford’s north side.
